SOCKET PRESERVATION

The purpose of this procedure is to prevent bone resorbtion after tooth extraction.

In many instances, bone loss can take place while teeth are lost or extracted. A bone graft at the time of a tooth extraction can prevent resorbtion of the jaw so that we can place a properly-sized implant later.

We place the graft material in the area where a tooth is extracted. Sometimes we use bone pins and/or a regeneration barrier to cover the graft material to further aid in its retention and healing. Sometimes, we use small sutures to close the gum tissue. When bone healing has occurred, we can plan the implant treatment.
